Cres is on the north of Kvarners islands, very close of island Losinj. From Cres to Losinj it is 11 km, and they are connected with rotary bridge. Although they are topology different their similarly is identified by same history and nearness. Cres is 404 km2 and 68 km long.

Both islands were settlement from the Stone Age and Bronze Age.

The coast of island is a little rugged and in island is not fluid water. The extensive fresh-water lake, which is 68 m below the sea level is situated in Cres. The lake donates water for all Cres.

The population lives mainly at west coast. Besides town Cres you can find some private campground or clean beach. The main port for both islands (also Losinj) is Mali Losinj, which has a ferry connection with Pula, Zadar, and Venice. In the summer time is also the connection with the ships to Susak, Cres and Rijeka. The ferry connection is from Brestov to Porozina at Cres and between Merag (Cres) and Valbisk (Krk)
